Qatari Club Al Sadd Bid for Romagnoli from Lazio

Qatari club Al Sadd has put in an official bid to Lazio for defender Alessio Romagnoli. The offer stands at 7.5 million euros, with add-ons that could push it up to 9 or 10 million euros. Talks between the clubs are moving forward. Roberto Mancini, who manages Al Sadd, wants the 31-year-old Italian to join his team.

This news came out today from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. He shared it on social media, and it quickly spread. Many posts on X repeated the details, showing how fast football rumours travel. Romagnoli has been with Lazio since 2022. He came from AC Milan as a free agent.

Before that, he spent seven years at Milan, even captaining the side. He started his career at Roma, but as a Lazio fan from childhood, joining them felt like coming home.

At Lazio, things have not been smooth lately. His contract runs until June 2027, but no one is talking about renewing it. Romagnoli got upset when club president Claudio Lotito did not keep a promise to raise his salary after Lazio made the Champions League in 2023.

His agent, Enzo Raiola, said last week they are looking at other options. But he added Romagnoli would not play for another Italian club out of respect for Lazio.

Al Sadd stepped in with interest earlier this month. Mancini, who took over in November, knows Romagnoli from his time coaching Italy. He has spoken directly to the player about the move.

Reports say Al Sadd offered a three-year deal worth about 6 million euros a year, or even up to 20 million total. That is a big paycheck, especially in Qatar’s league. Al Sadd leads the Qatar Stars League right now. They play in Doha and have won many titles.

Lazio’s stance is key here. Some reports say they turned down an earlier bid around 7 to 8 million euros. Another mentioned Al Sadd starting at 5 million, while Lazio holds out for 8 million. The latest offer might close that gap.

Lazio could sell now to get some money, instead of risking a free exit in 2027. But manager Maurizio Sarri sees Romagnoli as vital. He has started most games this season, partnering with young Alessio Gila in defense.

If Lazio lets him go, Sarri might quit on the spot. The team is mid-table in Serie A after a shaky start. Losing a key defender mid-season would hurt. Sarri has clashed with the board before over transfers. This could be the last straw.

Romagnoli himself might hesitate. As a lifelong Lazio supporter, leaving his dream club is tough. But the money and a fresh start could sway him. His agent confirmed they are open to moves abroad. Qatar offers a less intense league, good for a player in his 30s.

Other clubs watch too. AC Milan got offered Romagnoli through agents. They need a senior defender with Massimiliano Allegri in charge. But Romagnoli’s loyalty to Lazio might block an Italian switch.

Fans on social media are split. Some Lazio supporters worry about the defense without him. Others think the club should cash in. Posts from today show excitement in Qatar, with Al Sadd fans hoping for a big name.

This deal could wrap up soon. The winter window closes in about 10 days. If talks go well, Romagnoli might head to Doha for a medical. Mancini pushes hard, seeing him as a boost for their title run.

For Lazio, it tests their plans. Keep a unhappy player or take the fee? Sarri’s future hangs on it. Romagnoli has 50 caps for Italy, but has not played much lately. A move might keep him sharp.

Football transfers like this show how money and ambition mix. Romagnoli built a solid career in Italy. Now, Qatar calls. We will see if he answers.

Updates keep coming. Romano’s post got thousands of likes fast. Other journalists like Nicolo Schira mentioned Al Sadd preparing a bid days ago. The story develops quick.

In Doha, Al Sadd aims high. They have stars like Akram Afif. Adding Romagnoli fits their style. Lazio fans hope he stays. But business is business in football.
