Domestic violence in Eldoret took a troubling turn this week when a husband came home early and attacked his wife and her visiting brother, convinced something improper was happening. Jane, who lives in Eldoret with her husband Peter, shared her account of the frightening incident. She never expected an ordinary Monday to spiral like that.
Jane explained that Peter had always been controlling. She tried to handle it quietly, mostly for their two young children. She believed she still loved him, or at least wanted the family to stay together. That afternoon she was finishing chores and getting lunch ready. Her younger brother Samuel had come from out of town for the weekend. They sat in the living room, talking and laughing about old family stories. Nothing else.
Peter’s car pulled in much earlier than usual, before evening. Jane felt uneasy right away because he never returned before 7 pm. Then he burst through the door, yelling her name.
