Police arrest fake SHA officials who conned victim Sh251,000

Fake SHA officials who stole 251,000 shillings from a victim have been apprehended. The Social Health Authority (SHA) has captured four con artists who were able to defraud a victim of Sh251,000 via a well-choreographed scheme. The con artists were posing as officials from the SHA.

After receiving a complaint from somebody who believed he was signing up for a legal SHA membership, the cunning foursome consisting of Peter Muriithi, Catherine Kinyua, Lilian Njeri, and Samuel Mbuthia were taken into custody.

In a cunning manoeuvre, the con artists were able to persuade him to hand up his cell phone by using the excuse that he was “completing the registration process”.

After a few moments, his whole world was flipped upside down. His phone abruptly stopped working, and he made many unsuccessful efforts to get it back online.

He hurried to his Sacco after sensing that something was wrong, only to be confronted with the disheartening news that his account had been completely wiped out.

There was a total of Sh 251,000 that had been stolen and transferred to mobile phone numbers that were associated with the impostors.

Officers of the law from Marimanti quickly initiated an operation, which ultimately resulted in the arrest of the four individuals who were suspected of committing the crime.

Through painstaking investigation, a treasure trove of damning goods was discovered. These things included T-shirts with the SHA logo, name tags, membership cards, informative booklets, and various SIM cards.

KDP 267C, a Toyota Prado, was seized since it is suspected that it was involved in the fraudulent activities that were being carried out by the individuals.

A number plate with the number KDS 399C was also found, which adds further evidence to the suspicions about their operations.

The four suspects are now holding their breath at the Marimanti Police Station, where they are being processed in preparation for their arraignment.

While this is going on, investigations are being carried out in order to discover potential collaborators as well as additional victims who may have been taken advantage of by the gang’s covert strategies.
