Former Kenyan Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has come out to deny reports that he is admitted to hospital. He called the claims false propaganda spread by his political rivals. This follows social media posts on January 5, 2026, suggesting he was in an undisclosed facility and got a visit from Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai.
Kuria posted his response on X, saying, “Dear Rigathi Gachagua. You have sent your fake lapdogs to spread propaganda that I am in hospital. Sorry to disappoint you.” He tied it to ongoing fights with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The two have clashed a lot lately over influence in the Mt Kenya region. Kuria thinks the rumours aim to quiet him down as he questions Gachagua’s moves.
The talk started when photos surfaced online showing Alai with Kuria in what looked like a hospital room. Alai, who represents Kileleshwa ward in Nairobi, shared the images himself. He said Kuria was stable, and the visit showed friendships can exist even in tough politics. Some posts called the hospital private and in Nairobi, but no one named it clearly. One account mentioned Karen Hospital and old burns from an electric blanket, but that goes back to 2021, not now.
No one has given a clear reason for the supposed admission. Some online chatter guessed health issues like depression or arthritis, but those seem made up. A few posts just said “under medication” without details. Kuria’s family hasn’t commented, and his allies have stayed quiet too. By evening on January 5, concern grew among his supporters, but his denial calmed some of that.
This isn’t the first time health rumours have hit Kuria. Back in 2021, he really was in hospital after burns from an electric blanket he used for foot numbness. He had three surgeries then and stayed weeks at Karen Hospital. Leaders like Raila Odinga visited him. But Kuria recovered and got back to politics. He served as Trade CS, then Public Service CS, before getting sacked in 2024. Now he leads the Chama Cha Kazi party and stays vocal on issues.
Alai and Kuria have their own history. Alai, a former blogger turned politician, often speaks out on city matters. He’s had public rows with Kuria before, like over political goons in 2025. So the visit surprised people. It sparked talks about how rivals can still show care personally. Alai said it highlights bonds beyond the noise of politics.
The bigger backdrop is the feud with Gachagua. After Gachagua’s impeachment in 2024, he’s been rallying Mt Kenya folks. Kuria accused him of sending disruptors to a funeral in Murang’a on January 3, 2026. Gachagua called small parties like Kuria’s “wheelbarrows” meant to split votes before the 2027 elections. Kuria hit back, labelling Gachagua a coward and despot. He promised to fight on.
Social media blew up with the story. Posts got thousands of views fast. Some backed Kuria, saying the rumours are dirty tricks. Others joked about it, like one user asking if it was another blanket issue. A few worried for real, sending prayers. One post from January 3 even hinted at Kuria’s health looking bad at an event.
Kuria’s denial came quick, showing he’s active online. He often uses X to share views on the economy, health policy, and more. Just weeks ago, he talked about SHA success despite glitches. In October 2024, he called for arrests over hospital cash demands during the NHIF to SHIF switch.
For now, Kuria says he’s fine. No hospital stay, no issues. His post ends with a jab at Gachagua, keeping the rivalry alive. Kenyans will watch if more comes out. Alai’s visit, real or not, adds a human touch to the drama.
Politics in Kenya mixes personal and public like this often. Leaders feud one day and visit the next. Mt Kenya votes matter a lot for 2027. Kuria and Gachagua both want sway there. Rumours like this test loyalties. As of January 6, no new updates. If Kuria posts more, it could clear things up. Folks online keep debating. Some say pray anyway, just in case.
