Garissa Governor Ali Koraine hosted President Uhuru Kenyatta during his official visit to the county to officially commission the Garissa's Raya Solar Plant - the largest such plant in East and Central Africa.


The multi-billion shilling worth power plant that generates 54.6 MW has transformed Garissa County to an electric power producer. This is significant because the county is now not only contributing to the national power grid but this also opens up the potential of economic growth of our county as a result of the uninterrupted power supplies.


The governor commends President Uhuru's administration for its commitment to initiating key infrastructural development in the county particularly in the construction of Garissa-Madogashe Road.


Other local leaders present including National Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Aden Bare Duale and Garissa Senator Hon. Yussuf Haji in expressing support for the recommendations fronted by the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).


"As leaders of the county, we handed the president a joint memorandum that carried our requests for various projects to be undertaken by the national government, " the governor said.


Other leaders present included Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter, Deputy Governor H.E Abdi Dagane, Balambala MP Hon. Abdi Omar Shurie, Ijara MP Hon. Sofia Abdi Noor, Lagdera MP Mohamed Hire, Fafi MP Hon. Abdikarim Osman, Dadaab MP Hon. Dr. Mohamed Dahiye, former Vice President and ANC leader Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya Power Chairman Eng. Mahboub Maalim, North Eastern Regional Commissioner Mohamed Birik, and other senior and county government officials
