President Uhuru Kenyatta orders fast probes into accusations of perversion of Covid-19 funds.


Statehouse asks the DCI and the EACC to take up the matter and give daily progress updates, with copies to the DPP.


"The Head of State is interested to see the details on the subject ascertained and like a step taken," Part of a letter dated August 21st to the agencies by Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua reads.

"The head of state reemphasises his faith that any person found guilty of any wrongdoing should be sued within the full scope of the law, without fear or favour," the letter added.


"In points above, you are thus instructed to provide my office with daily updates on the progression of the investigation with similar copies to ODPP," it adds.


Jubilee government had been under stress to hold for how emergency funds spent on PPEs and other equipment to fight the virus.


Kemsa CEO Jonah Mwangi was suspended last week following accusations that the authority spurned acquisition guidance.


The Ministry of Health now under-pressure after procurement and financial breaches that put at risk more than Sh100 billion of donor funds and taxpayers' money.


Foreign donors at the Ministry of Health have cautioned to withdraw funding over excessive graft.
