Francis Atwoli, the Secretary General of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU), has been given a position on one of the seven-person committees that will ssdbe in charge of choosing the next Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). This appointment was made by President William Ruto.

The Head of State made the declaration in a press release that appeared in the Gazette on June 20, 2023. The statement said that the committee would be entrusted with directing the screening process for the applicants.

Twalib Mbarak, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), and Shadrack Mose, the Solicitor General, are two of the other members who have been named to the committee.

Mary Kimonye, Mary Adhiambo Maumga, Roseline Odede, and Richard Onsongo Bush Obwocha are the other members of the team. Mary Kimonye is the Principal Secretary of the Public Service.

Since the previous Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji, was recently sworn into service as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), the position has been left empty.

On May 16, 2023, President William Ruto proposed Haji for the position of the new head of the National Intelligence Service (NIS). On June 13, 2023, the Defence and Foreign Relations Committee of Parliament examined Haji’s nomination and accepted it.
