Uasin Gishu man cons over 600 youths in the disguise of securing sports in the sports agency in Kenya. He promised to take the 600 youths directly to Athletics Kenya, where they would later participate in the national Olympics and international marathons.
The 30 youth who had trained hard believe that the man will take them to Athletics Kernya and eventually go to the Olympics.
The victims have since come forward to expose the scammer, Gilbert Kiptoo Songok, who in 2021 directed 30 youths, starting with Uasin Gishu, to participate in an Iten training camp under the guise of securing their names with Athletic Kenya. The number kept increasing.
The youths gave over Sh350,000 to get a spot, as the money was to be used for getting visas as well as paying officials at Athletics Kenya.
Approximately 600 victims entrusted Songok with payments averaging Ksh. 350,000 each for temporary visas. Shockingly, not a single person among the hopeful applicants received the promised visas.
