Ambassador Ali Chirau Mwakwere elected as the Chairman of Wiper Democratic Party taking over from Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana who resigned citing frustration and issues in the party. Mrs. Anne Kanyi was elected as Vice-Chair.
Ambassador Makware’s election was announced on Sunday at a retreat of Wiper Partyβs National Executive Council held at the Kenya School of Law in Karen, Nairobi.
βThe election of the Chairman and Vice-Chair will be ratified at a National Delegates Conference whose date will be announced later,β said the party.
“There have been issues within the party, especially between myself and the party leader. I sat down with the people of Makueni and told them I could no longer be the (Wiper) party Chair and they said it was fine as it is not mandatory for me to hold that position in order to serve them,β said the governor on February 4, 2019.
The Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka cited his satisfaction over the election held.
