The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal is requesting the government to investigate allegations that some councilors are involved in the embezzlement of food items meant for vulnerable groups during the national lockdown. Some politicians have been taken food to their girlfriends, boyfriends, and relatives who are well-off leaving the vulnerable.
“It looks like now people are doing a very dangerous thing involving politics in this crisis where people are suffering because of the lockdown situation which is beyond government and beyond everybody,” said KwaZulu-Natal ANC spokesperson Ricardo Mthembu
”So, as the ANC, we would like to caution people and we are concerned about people donating food parcels and of course those food parcels don’t reach the people who are supposed to get them.”
”We don’t want to see government programs of ensuring that people are assisted through food parcels being manipulated,” adds Mthembu
” Those Food Items are better than the ones not given to residents of Umgababa in the South Coast of Durban near Amanzimtoti. It is shocking to see local ANC members taking food parcels to girlfriends, boyfriends, friends, and family members and they say wena uhlanganaphi when others ask, “Umgababa resident cries.
