A significant number of users were unable to access Meta’s (META.O) Facebook and Instagram on Tuesday due to a worldwide outage that lasted for almost an hour.
Also, a new record for most people on X at once is soon to be looked at by the Guiness World Record Team. Despite not having downtime like meta applications, X users mocked the downtime, which occurred simultaneously on all three applications.
Many users reported on competing social networking site X that they were kicked out of Facebook and Instagram and couldn’t check in when the disturbances began at about 10:00 a.m. ET (1500 GMT).
“We have been made aware of the fact that our services are inaccessible to certain users,” a representative from Meta, Andy Stone, said on X, saying that they are currently working on this.
Among its many applications, including WhatsApp and Threads, the social media behemoth has 3.19 billion daily active users; shares of this company were down 1.5 percent in late morning trading.
According to Meta’s status dashboard, WhatsApp Business’s API was also experiencing problems.
Although Downdetector, which monitors breakdowns by compiling status data from various sources, including users, recorded less than 200 incident reports for WhatsApp and Threads, respectively, the downtime was still noticeable.
Posts reviewed by Reuters show that some Meta workers were concerned about potential layoffs after being unable to access company networks using the anonymous chat software Blind.
With a message that read, “If you’re enjoying this post, it’s because our servers are working,” X (previously Twitter) owner Elon Musk poked fun at Meta, and the outage became one of the most popular topics on the network.
An outage in December affected around 77,000 users in countries ranging from the United States to France, and this was just one of several service outages that have plagued X since Musk bought the social networking platform for $44 billion in October 2022.
