The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) overwhelmingly elected Isaac Rutto, a former governor of Bomet, as deputy chairman.
At an appointment on Monday, June 10, 2024, JSC announced in a press release that Rutto had won the polls.
“On June 7, 2024, during the session, the Members of the Judicial Service Commission unanimously elected Hon. Isaac Kiprono Rutto, EGH, as the Vice Chairperson of the JSC,” the statement stated.
Article 171(2)(h) of the Constitution designated Rutto as a public representative in the Commission on June 15, 2023.
Having served in various leadership roles for over thirty years, he is an advocate for sound governance in all spheres, encompassing both federal and local administrations.
In leadership and management, “Hon. Rutto espouses values of inclusivity, accessibility, and responsiveness,” according to JSC.
Rutto previously served as Council of Governors’ Chair and Governor of Bomet County (2013–2017).
In addition, he was a member of parliament for the Chepalungu Constituency from 1998 to 2002 and from 2008 to 2012.
The previous governor of Bomet obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nairobi, majoring in Political Science, Sociology, and Economics.
Hon. Macharia Njeru steps down in May 2024, and Rutto assumes his position.
