As the Government directs local manufacturer to produce enough facemasks, Kitui textile firm KICOTEC was among the first firms to be assigned with the task.

However, the state says KICOTEC masks are not up the standard. Ministry of Health said the firm could produce 30,000 masks per day.
The distribution of facemasks in the country takes another turn after the Director of Nursing Services at MOH. Dr Mary Nandili said the facemasks from KICOTEC are substandard and could not help in the fight against the virus.
She added that the facemasks are not ready for distribution because of quality and urged the manufacturers to follow the laid out guidelines from the Ministry of Health.
