There have been tensions between Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro due to the recent decision to outlaw cars that operate as PSVs without permits.
The CS has stated that his ministry is focusing on the cars, particularly Sientas and Noahs, which have been working in the public service sector without proper authorization.
Nyoro, who leads the Parliamentary Budget and Appropriations Committee, has expressed his opinion that all enterprises should be given support to grow.
He also mentioned that the order did not come from the administration of President William Ruto.
According to Nyoro, the government’s job is to identify ways to help all Kenyan business people, including those in the transport sector, to perform their enterprises without fear.
The politician has also called for a nationwide tax cut and argued that businesses that bought goods in Shillings during the currency’s volatility are now at risk of losing money due to the recent decline.
He believes that every entrepreneur deserves the government’s support and that their job should be to encourage Kenyan firms and enterprises to expand and create a profit.
Kindiki has pledged to crack down on private vehicles passing themselves as PSVs and claimed that they were operating unlawfully while testifying before the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure.
He stated that some PSV company owners operate illegally and some individuals engage in PSV enterprises without the necessary certifications and licenses.
Kindiki mentioned two groups, Sienta and Noah, as potential trouble spots that they intend to address.
Typically, these vehicles are authorized to operate as taxis, rather than PSVs that cover long-distance routes.
