President Uhuru Kenyatta has repeated on the possibilities of not having a referendum on the Building Bridges Initiative. The President said the country is closer to the election and it will be of benefit if leaders should refrain from campaigning for the referendum.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati claims that the Independent has no money for an election. The Chairman said that there was no budget set aside for referendum.
He said countrywide elections would cost the taxpayer between Sh 70 Billion to Sh 100 Billion.
Already the BBI taskforce has spent Sh. 10 Billion on getting views and suggestions from the public across the country.
” We have no cash for the referendum. The government cannot spend Sh. 70 Billion referendum and next year start another election process with another Sh. Billion. We have no budget for that, ” the IEBC chairman said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta said there were no possibilities for a referendum. He was speaking the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier who visited Kenya on Sunday.
