Kawira Mwangaza, the governor of Meru, has been detained.

Mwangaza was detained in Imenti Central while carrying out her Okolea Outreach Programme, which involved giving a family a cow.

Mwangaza asserted in a statement that she was being detained in a police car and that the police had declined to file charges against her.

“I’m still being held inside the police car by the policemen. They don’t want to push their allegations against me at the police station,” she added.

According to reports, the County Governor was detained for attending ‘Okolea’ meetings, which Interior Cabinet Kithure Kindiki had forbade.

Mwangaza said that the ‘arrest’ was made for political reasons while speaking from the police car.

“When the cops arrived and ordered me to get into their car, I did so amicably. They have resisted starting the car.

She added, “I want to know who sent them and what went wrong here.

“There are individuals who still have doubts that there is a leader in Meru.”
Mwangaza and the woman she had gone to help with a cow donation were both ‘arrested’.
