On Tuesday, during a State House ceremony, some Cabinet Secretaries were unable to sign their contracts as they were not allowed in.
One of these Cabinet Secretaries had an important role in a crucial and strategic area. The ceremony was scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., according to Emmanuel Talam, the State House Press Secretary.
All Cabinet Secretaries and their Principal Secretaries needed to be seated before the ceremony began. However, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, Trade and Industry CS Moses Kuria, and a few Principal Secretaries were late and were excluded from the ceremony, which was presided over by President William Ruto.
At the ceremony, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua sternly warned CSs and PSs against tardiness, emphasising that there could be no excuse for such behaviour.
Gachagua was quick to point out that he had noticed several people were late and that he had looked the President straight in the eye, fully aware that there would be consequences for them.
“You cannot come late where the head of state is already seated,” he declared.
“Why were you so late? How do you explain that? On a day when signing contracts was of the utmost importance, whom did you visit?”
The DP made it clear that he would not tolerate any delays and that he couldn’t afford to keep the President waiting.
“Since you appointed me, I had only ever been late once, and that was only because you had misled me by saying you would leave the State House at 7:30 in the morning so that we could meet at the airport when, in fact, you departed at 6:30 am.”
