On Friday, April 16, in Ndakaini, Murang’a County, the leaders of the Kikuyu Council of Elders ceremonially washed and sanctified S.K. Macharia, the owner of Royal Media Services.

The ceremony was performed with the intention of reversing a curse that had been placed on him by the elders in 2017.

“There was just one reason for our visit to this location today: to pray to God, hoping that he would purify the sins that have taken place here in 2007,” one of the elders declared. “2007 was a difficult year for our community.”

During the ceremony, the elders killed a sheep and offered it as a sacrifice in order to purify the location that had been used by the elders who had placed the curse on Macharia in the past.

One of the more senior members of the community said, “We have forgiven those who spelt the enchantment, and we understand that they are not going to come back to repeat the exact same ritual.”

Additionally, the Kikuyu Council of Elders offered prayers for peace and tranquilly throughout the country.

In 2017, a faction of the Kikuyu Council of Elders known as Kiama Kia Ma (Council of the Truth) condemned Macharia for treason for his backing of ODM leader Raila Odinga. As a result, this faction placed a curse on Macharia.

They accused the head of the RMS of making “inflammatory statements” in the National Assembly when he said that the ODM leader had won the 2007 general election rather than the former president, Mwai Kibaki. They held him accountable for this statement.

“We carried out the ceremony, and the rest was up to God,” he said. According to Kiarie wa Rugami, who was the chair of the breakaway group at the time, “God is left to do whatever he wants without certain circumstances, and we know that at any time catastrophes can strike him.”

Rugami gave the impression that the goat that was supposed to be sacrificed had been burned, which meant that the curse could not be broken and there was nothing that could be done to rescue him.

The elders decided to propagate the misfortune to all of Macharia’s subsequent generations, which Wachira Kiago, head of the Kikuyu Council of Elders, pointed out was not justifiable.
