Musalia Mudavadi, the Prime Cabinet Secretary, has stood up for the contentious Finance Bill 2024, which has sparked demonstrations throughout the country.
During his speech on Friday at Eldama Ravine, which is located in Baringo County, Mudavadi said that the government has to find methods to increase taxes in order to pay off the enormous debts and develop the country.
He compared the act of rejecting the Finance Bill to casting a vote of no confidence in the administration that was in power at the time.
“Finance Bill ndiyo msingi wa serikali. Hii bill ndiyo mzizi wa serikali.” Mudavadi declared, “Kimataifa Finance Bill ikishindwa, the net effect is serikali imeng’olewa mamlakani; it’s equivalent to a vote of no confidence.”
Kimani Ichung’wah, the majority leader in the National Assembly, attacked a government official, saying he is against the law and wants to prevent the government from fulfilling its promises to Kenyans.
In addition to this, he urged Kenyan authorities not to deceive the Kenyan people.
“It is no joke. Siyo mambo ya kawaida. A vote of no confidence followed the passage of the Finance Bill, necessitating the resignation of the government and the holding of new elections.”
Every single member of parliament, including Reuben Kiborek of Mogotio, Musa Sirma of Eldama Ravine, and Tandaza of Matuga, backed the decision to adopt the law.
Nevertheless, Beatrice Elachi, a member of parliament for Dagoretti, cautioned the leaders to be aware of the rise of the young, who claimed that the government was to blame for the unemployment issue.
