Cyril Ramaphosa's inauguration

The South African Police Service detained a man from Zimbabwe after reports surfaced that he attempted to obtain credentials to attend Cyril Ramaphosa’s inauguration using a deceased person’s identification paper.

According to the person currently in custody, he bought the identity card from a home affairs officer and has been using it since 2000.

While he was going through the screening procedure, the State Security Agency’s technology caught him and marked him for further investigation.

The allegations state that the man claimed to be working for one of the service providers at the Union Buildings’ inauguration event on Wednesday.

The fake diplomat will be under police custody until the investigation concluded. The investigation will encompass the man’s move and mission to the ceremony, as well as how he got to that stage.
