Three people have been arrested by police in Homa Bay County over child trafficking. A police report shows that police got wind of information that a car was ferrying a child from Oyugis to Kendu Bay town.
Early investigations showed that the child had been sold for Ksh. 80,000 to a child trafficking ring in Keroka town, Nyamira County.
Police laid an ambush and intercepted the vehicle, registration number KCW 901Y.
The driver led the officers from Kendu Bay police station to the house in Nyaburi village in Karachuonyo where three others, among them a 62-year-old woman, were arrested.
“The driver, identified as George Ochieng, led officers to a house where three suspects were arrested,” the statement reads in part.
A search was conducted in the house, and a 2-year-old boy was found. Following this, the three, Ruth Aoko Awuor, Winny Ginjo, and Molly Akinyi were arrested.
The suspects are expected in court, where they will face charges of human trafficking. Meanwhile, the officers are following leads in efforts to trace the boy’s parents.
