Tropical Cyclone Hidaya hit Tanzania

Tropical Cyclone Hidaya is believed to have made landfall on the coast of Tanzania, according to the most recent observations. However, there is another depression building behind it, and the meteorological department is keeping a close eye on it.

On Sunday, May 5th, 2024, there is a forecast for heavy rainfall along the coastal strip, which is likely to worsen on Monday, May 6th, and continue through Tuesday, May 7th, 2024.

Offshore, the cyclone’s effects are already evident, with high gusts exceeding 40 knots (20.6 metres per second) and large waves exceeding two meters for some.

The Meteorological Department of Kenya will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.

The physical rules that govern cyclone genesis remain unchanged. The Met Department, on the other hand, said that they are experiencing the impacts of the tropical cyclone’s fringes, but that the storm will eventually diminish and become a depression.

The cyclone’s eye will make landfall at a distance of about or below 5 degrees south of the equator.
