Teams from the DCI Headquarters Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and DCI Ruai arrested Peter Kamau Muniu, Timothy Irungu Karimi, and Antony Maina Njoroge in response to an increase in motorcycle theft cases in the Ruai and Kamulu areas.
The devastated owner, who parked the tuktuk on Tuesday night after work but found it missing the next day, pursued and arrested the three, who are believed to be the architects of the illegal dealings.
Taking up the matter, the officers conducted an intelligence-led operation in Kamulu, recovering the said tuktuk reg. no. KTWB 975T within the homestead of Peter Kamau Muniu (a former Kenya Navy officer), while the other two suspects were dismantling it.
A motorcycle made by Jin Cheng, reg. no. KMDN 972B (maroon), and a Nissan Wingroad, reg. no. KCD 143Y (silver), believed to be used in distributing dismantled parts, were also found at the scene. The Ruai Police Station seized and detained both vehicles.
The DCI is investigating two other known suspects who allegedly slipped away during the raid.
