Muthoni Grita, a businesswoman, has entered the presidential contest ahead of the August 9th poll.
Muthoni announced her State House bid at a press conference in Nairobi on Sunday, stating she will run on the Ford Asili party’s banner. She is the first woman to run for president in this year’s elections.
If elected, the University of East London graduate promised to build servant leadership to address the country’s challenges, pledging to focus on the youth, the economy, and the rule of law.
“As a result, I, Grita Muthoni, volunteer to serve as your fifth president so that, together, we can enhance lives and livelihoods, making Kenya a joyful nation for its residents and attractive to visitors.”
“We’re going hungry right now; is it because the farmers have become fewer that we don’t have food? No. I’m not even going that far with this bid; we have youth, farming, road building, and we might even be exporting fertilisers,” she remarked.
Her administration will also work to boost manufacturing, boost agricultural production, attract investments, improve education, cultivate talent, and ensure that everyone has access to high-quality health care, according to her.
“I will restore dignity, social fairness, and the rule of law,” Muthoni said, adding that “all government arms will work together for the common good of our population.”
The mother of three asked voters to vote against her opponents, claiming that they do not have the country’s best interests at heart.
“I won’t say much because, according to what I’ve heard, we have horses; we’re just waiting for leaders; leaders can join leaders, and horses can join horses.” “The election of 2022 will be a choice between the future and the status quo, which includes misery, exploitation, self-rule, and perhaps enslavement,” she said.
“I want to help Kenyans go from human wrongs to human rights, giving everyone the dignity they deserve,” Muthoni added. She also talked of patriotism saying, “We must embrace the spirit of patriotism.”
Muthoni was previously the Chair and President of Kenya’s Going Green Campaign, which intends to plant 50 million trees by 2023.
She also served on the European Digital University Education USA’s Global Governing Council for BlockChain Certification Application.
She has worked for a variety of organisations, including New Wine Church in the United Kingdom, Josephat Charity in London, and World Mothers and Children Organization in Gothenburg, Sweden.
