On July 3, 2023, Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai was seen on tape hitting a Kenya Power employee who was cutting off power at the lawmaker’s Kitengela residence.
Since the electricity had been illegitimately supplied to the MP’s home, authorities allegedly unplugged it.
In the encounter on Monday night, Mbai argued with the authorities and insulted them, ultimately exceeding his temper.
“You want to turn off the electricity for my kids? Mbai can be heard yelling, I am a man, I can’t allow that,” on the video.
In a fit of rage, Mbai punches the KPLC official, after which he reaches for his gun but fails to get it out.
The link, which spanned more than a kilometer, was an unlawful connection that endangered lives by overwhelming a nearby transformer, according to Kenya Power senior security officer Peter Kathusia.
An unauthorized power meter and wires associated with the power distribution firm were found during the Tuesday raid by a group of Kenya Power employees and police officers.
“We have retrieved aluminum electrical lines from Kenya Electrical that were a meter from the residence. Additionally, the complete electrical line will be taken down. For the residents of the residence, such an illegal electrical line is like a ticking time bomb, Kathusia remarked.
After being detained, two employees were transported to Kitengela Police Station. During the Tuesday raid, the MP wasn’t home.
