The Volvo company is set to establish a 2.5 Billion assembly firm in Mombasa. The Swedish Volvo will set up a satellite assembly point in Malindi as well. The plant will serve East Africa as the like of Volkswagen and Toyota does in the region.
The firm will be expected to kick off by May next year. According to the South African MD Torbjörn Christensson, the firm will manage the East Africa market and will make Volvo trucks and personal cars cheap than when imported.
The company said the factory would be ready for commissioning in early 2018 and would have a capacity to produce 500 units, which would be scaled up over time to reach 2,000 units.
