This is a story in progress that will be updated as new details become available.
Local media reports state that during the past week, Marc Daniel Cuvier, a rising rapper better known by his stage name Asap Jexus, was killed and then set ablaze in Port-au-Prince.
His mother revealed the news of his passing on Radio Television Caribbean.
Although the rapper’s exact date of death is unknown, he has been missing since Friday, Nov. 3.
His mother informed the station that her son had been picked up by a policeman known as “Baby” to take him to a show at the Dynasty Club in the Port-au-Prince suburb of Sarthe.
Monday saw the discovery of the rapper’s partially burned-out vehicle close to the National Company of Industrial Parks (SONAPI).
Uncertainty surrounds the location and method of identification of a body discovered that was thought to be the rapper’s.
Asap Jexus gained fame primarily from the song “Dodama,” which swept through young people’s hearts and working-class neighbourhoods.
Relony Michel, a well-known musician, was also slain within the last week, and reports from the media indicate that his body was left in the street.
At the intersection of Rue Lafleur Ducheine and Rue Magloire Ambroise on October 31, Michel, who gained notoriety for his rendition of the Obama song during the 2010 Digicel Stars competition, was fatally shot.
The following Saturday, his body remained on the road; locals found this to be so unsettling that they denounced the authorities for failing to dispatch a carrier to take the body away.
Nobody’s life is spared in Port-au-Prince these days due to the widespread gang violence, not even artists. A United Nations report states that between January and August, over 2,400 people lost their lives.
