Azimio, after losing the recently ended presidential election to President-elect William Ruto, Raila Odinga gave an emotional message to Kenyans.
Despite the fact that six regions of the country supported Raila Odinga, the majority of registered voters—Mt. Kenya and the Rift valley—voted for William Ruto, who won the election on August 9.
Ruto, 56, defeated former prime minister Raila Odinga with 7,176,141 votes, or 50.59% of the legitimate ballots cast and 6,942,930 votes, or 48.85% respectively.
Raila, who is considered as the unquestioned father of democracy in Kenya, stated in his first speech following his defeat that those who rejected him would remember him when he was no longer alive.
At a meeting with Azimio politicians on Wednesday at the Maasai Lodge in Kajiado County, Raila stated, “They might not remember me now, but they will remember me after I am gone.
For more than 40 years, Raila has fought for Kenyan democracy.
Raila was imprisoned by the late former president Daniel Arap Moi in 1982 for nine years without being tried. Despite this, Raila emerged from the ashes to lead the second liberation in the early 1990s.
