The Judicial Service Commission has chosen Anthony Charo Mrima, a member of the Kitale High Court, to serve as the new male representative for judges.
The Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA) conducted elections in Kisumu, where he emerged victorious with a total of 95 votes. Justus Mbithi, the presiding officer of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, and Hellen Namwaka, his deputy, were in charge of monitoring the election.
According to the results released by the association’s president, Justice Stephen Radido III, Justice Mrima defeated his two competitors, Sila Munyao and James Olola Otieno, both members of the Environment and Lands Court. Each of them received 27 votes, while the other received 15 votes.
Justice David Majanja, who had been re-elected in May but passed away on July 10 of this year, has been replaced by an individual named Justice Mrima.
During his term, he requested some time to establish a list of key issues that he would concentrate on.
“I am unable to reveal to you what my plans are at this moment. It would be helpful if you would let me walk in first and see how it seems; then I would be able to handle it,” stated Justice Charo Mrima.
In addition, he advocated for the independence of the judicial system and made a solemn commitment to uphold the Constitution in his new position at the Commission.
Protecting the judiciary is very important. Any time you interfere with the judicial system in any way, you are interfering with this nation’s constitutional order.
