On Monday afternoon, suspected police officers arrested Morara Kebaso, a government critic and anti-corruption crusader, at his Kahawa Sukari offices in Nairobi.
Hussein Khalid, the founder of Vocal Africa and a well-known activist, confirmed the arrest of a lawyer-turned-activist.
“Someone has abducted Morara Kebaso from his headquarters in Kahawa. ” Khalid stated, “We are currently en route to the Nairobi Area (police), where we suspect his abduction.”
There were reports that his lawyers, who were hurriedly following a police vehicle to the Nairobi Regional Headquarters, couldn’t enter the building.
“They have restricted access and have strict instructions from the top not to allow anyone to access Morara, including lawyers, media personnel, and anyone else,” the lawyer told the press.
Kebaso has been leveraging social media to highlight government inefficiencies by visiting stalled projects.
He expressed his anger in a post on Monday about the alleged sodomization of a coast-based blogger who had criticised Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir.
” Morara is being retained at the Regional Police Headquarters. The police have refused to allow Morara access, even to his lawyers,” Senator Okiya Omtatah posted on X.
