In response to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s public remarks on the Wakulima market dispute, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja deftly responds, seemingly avoiding a verbose exchange in favour of a strategically minimalist reply that conveys the weighted implication that such matters are best resolved behind closed doors rather than through public discourse.
In a brief subsequent response, Governor Sakaja seemingly urged DP Gachagua to phone him directly instead of attempting to reach him via social media.
“My elder brother H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, you have my number,” wrote the Nairobi County boss.
In response to the protests held on Thursday, the Nairobi County government firmly stood by its plans to relocate the traders, articulating the necessity of addressing critical urban challenges.
The administration has pointed to the growing concerns over congestion, the escalating health risks posed by overcrowded market spaces, and the urgent need for improved waste management systems within the city.
The county reiterated that these measures are part of a broader strategy aimed at ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more efficient Nairobi.
