Why Mohammed Abduba Dida jailed 7 years in the US

Mohammed Abduba Dida, a former presidential candidate, is currently serving a seven-year sentence at the Big Muddy River Correctional Centre in Illinois, United States.

His conviction in 2022 was based on allegations that he had stalked and intimidated a person who remained anonymous in the United States.

It is anticipated that Dida will be released from the institution on April 3, 2029, having been sentenced on November 18, 2022.

Dida, a former educator who came to the attention of the public during Kenya’s presidential election in 2013, was found guilty of two charges. The first charge was for stalking and transmitting threats, which ended up resulting in a sentence of two years.

The second count was for aggravated stalking and violation of a restraining order, which led to the court handing him a five-year sentence.

Dida has filed a lawsuit, alleging a violation of his constitutional rights in response to recent events.

In papers filed with the court on July 8, 2024, Dida said that his incarceration has hindered him from participating in educational and other activities.

He claims in his statement that since his imprisonment in the East Moline Correctional Centre on May 31, 2022, he has not been able to participate in any educational programs.

Dida further contended that he had not received medical care, pointing out that his health had gotten worse while he was in prison.

The court rejected Dida’s allegations, citing a lack of constitutional foundation for his incapacity to enrol in educational or vocational programs.

Because it was unable to demonstrate a constitutional claim that warranted redress, the court has decided to dismiss this action with prejudice. The plaintiff has received three “strikes”; this case was dismissed, according to court records.

In 2013, Dida positioned himself as a potential alternative to the political giants Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

He ran for the top seat on the Alliance for Real Change ticket and was unsuccessful in his bid.

His showing in the televised debates for the presidency garnered the respect of a significant number of Kenyans, even though he began his campaign from Wajir County and was unknown to the public.

In his portrayal of himself, he said that he was on his way to defeat political giants like Uhuru and Raila. He presented himself as the biblical King David.

On the other hand, he only received 54,840 votes, which is a significant distance behind Uhuru (6,173, 433) and Raila (5,340, 546).

The election that followed saw Dida run for the top position again. Again, he found himself competing against Uhuru and Raila. For Dida, 38,004 votes were cast.

It is well known that Dida made the statement, “Don’t eat too much githeri; leave room for water,” during the presidential debate in 2013.

He was also disappointed that a dropout from eighth grade would be able to solve the problem, while someone with a doctorate in electrical would have to spend the night in the dark.

In addition, he said, “We do not dwell on the deficiencies of each and every one of us,” while the argument was taking place. I’m not asking for your support; please vote for the most qualified candidate.
