Reggae is spiritual! Bishop Ben Kiengei reveals why he brought Glen Washington

Bishop Ben Kiengei of JCM Church is ecstatic that reggae icon Glenroy Washington, together with his business partner Jackie Whyte, visited his church.

On Sunday, October 6, 2024, Kiengei revealed to his audience that the reggae superstars had accepted his offer and were present throughout the service.

He continued by thanking him for coming to the service and explaining that he had invited the legendary reggae artist to his church because he loved his spiritual songs, particularly “carry the name of Jesus,” which he described as powerful, and because Glen had told him that he sings for Jesus.

“Now, ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for reggae. Let’s celebrate Glen’s arrival at our church. It’s a wonderful moment. He told me he sings for Jesus, and I really admire that,” said Kiengei.

“I invited him because I adore his song, ‘Carry the name of Jesus.’ It’s a really powerful song.”

In defence of his invitation, Kiengei continued, stating that he understands that some of his detractors may doubt Glen’s presence in his church and that many people are unaware of the spirituality and alignment of reggae with church teachings.

“You understand, Glen, that the church is a very challenging institution in Kenya. You told me that reggae is spiritual, so that’s one thing.”

“I understand that some people may question why they brought him there, given that he sings reggae,” he said.

With his music, Glen entertained the members of JCM Church in Ruiru.

“I know you weren’t aware of this when I first met Glen Washington at work, but that’s how I learnt about him and found it unexpected.”

“The fact that Glen Washington is a bishop’s son drew my attention, prompting me to inquire if he might attend church jokingly. Yes, reggae is spiritual,” he confirmed.

Africa-bound reggae Summer Fest 2024, a Mashujaa peace event, will include a spectacular performance by the phenomenal reggae, who is on his third visit to the country, at KICC on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
