Govt lists 26 blacklisted job recruiting agencies in Kenya

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection recently made public the identities of 26 employment agencies that have a temporary ban on conducting business in Kenya.

All private employment agencies that hire Kenyans for domestic or international labour markets must register with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, according to the National Employment Authority (NEA).

Alfred Mutua, the CS for Labour, testified before the Senate Committee on Labour and Social Protection that the ministry had removed the directors of First Choice from its blacklisted list of 25 agencies and prohibited them from establishing or running any recruitment businesses in Kenya.

“I vehemently denounce First Choice Recruitment and Consultancy Agency Limited for continuing its illicit operations after deregistration.

“The organisation, headed by Judy Jepchirchir and Faith Wariga Gichuhi, was at the heart of a fraud scheme that promised over a thousand Kenyans jobs overseas, which never happened.”

“Despite being blacklisted and having their registration expire, the agency continues to attempt operations, disregarding the law and the frustrations of affected Kenyans,” stated CS Mutua.

In order to notify the public and job seekers that a number of private employment agencies are not registered and are not permitted to conduct any kind of hiring operations for local (Kenyan) or overseas labour markets, the Ministry of Labour produced a list.
