Self-proclaimed president of comedy and activist Eric Omondi has invited Kenyans to participate in his alternative Mashujaa Day celebration, scheduled for Sunday, October 20, 2024, in Uhuru Park in Nairobi.
Generation Z organized anti-government demonstrations in June 2024 as a memorial to the young people who tragically lost their lives.
Eric posted a video on X on Saturday, October 19, encouraging Kenyans to gather at Uhuru Park as early as six in the morning.
“I am pushing and imploring Kenyans from all walks of life to gather at Uhuru Park from six in the morning till three in the afternoon tomorrow, which is Sunday.”
He said that people would be holding a celebration in honour of the recent lost heroes—brothers and sisters who passed away during the demonstrations.
Eric Omondi, who transitioned from the entertainment industry to the grassroots movement, provided the guests with detailed instructions.
In addition to bringing a Kenyan flag, attendees are asked to hold a candle and dress in black and wear black clothing.
“Please come carrying a candle, please come wearing black, and please come carrying a flag,” the speaker would want to hear.
“In the presence of our fallen heroes, we shall be with their parents and relatives.
“Tukuje mapema, tuombe, tusherekee mashujaa wetu,” the tweet reads. “May God bless you, and I will see you tomorrow at six o’clock in the morning at Uhuru Park,” he said.
Morara Kebaso, a lawyer and political activist, previously stated that he would not attend the Mashujaa Day event, which Eric Omondi was organizing concurrently in Uhuru Park.
Morara said that he was giving Eric Omondi’s function his backbone since he did not know who had financed and supported the event.
He posted the statement on his X account on Thursday, October 17, 2024. Morara’s reasons for not attending the event created mixed reactions online.
