Rigathi shares Nderitu’s will over Sh5.2Billion wealth accusation

The Deputy President dismissed allegations outlined in the impeachment motion that he had amassed a substantial wealth portfolio, estimated at Sh5.2 billion, in just two years.

The motion accuses Gachagua of acquiring the wealth through corrupt means, including money laundering.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s family takes the unprecedented step of publicly releasing the will of his late brother, Nderitu Gachagua.

DP Rigathi had to share the will of Nderitu Gachagua, who was the Nyeri governor at the time of his death in February 2017, in a bid to counter accusations of amassing ill-gotten wealth amid ongoing impeachment proceedings.

The will names the Deputy President among the executors and administrators of the estate and lists properties including Vipingo Beach Resort, Olive Garden Hotel, Queens Gate Serviced Apartments, and Lang’ata View Apartments as belonging to the deceased.

By doing so, the family seeks to clarify that Gachagua’s involvement with these properties is strictly as an executor and beneficiary.

Documents attached to the petition to the National Assembly include a Kenya Gazette notice dated June 9, 2017, which lists Gachagua alongside two others as executors of the estate.
