TRV Towers Directors face charges of Ksh 112 million fraud

Two directors of TRV Towers Limited appeared in a Nairobi court today to face charges related to an alleged theft of millions.

TRV Towers Limited accused Tribhovan Anlalji Chavada and his son Jayesh Tribhovan Chavda of stealing Ksh 112 million from the company.

According to the charge sheet, Tribhovan Anlalji Chavada allegedly stole Ksh 112 million on various dates from October 18, 2019, to July 31, 2023, money that was reportedly in his possession as a result of his role as managing director at TRV Towers.

The case also involves allegations of conspiracy to defraud the company, with both Tribhovan and Jayesh charged with this offence.

Another charge against them involved allegedly forging documents to open an account at the Bank of Baroda and passing them off as authentic.

Appearing before Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi, both directors denied all charges.

Justice Mutava, representing the complainant, requested the court to impose strict bail terms, given the substantial sum allegedly taken.

He noted that both accused possess dual citizenship for the United Kingdom and Kenya, arguing that this dual status increased the possibility of their fleeing the court’s jurisdiction.

Justice Mutava urged the court to order the accused to deposit their passports until the case concludes.

“The first accused person holds a managerial position within the complainant’s company, exercising extensive influence within the company.

“We request that the court restrict him from interfering in the company’s affairs. Given his control over various company accounts, we also ask for an order to freeze these accounts to prevent any withdrawal of funds during the trial,” Justice Mutava stated in his submission.

Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi, in his response, declined to make immediate orders regarding the company accounts but advised the complainant to file a formal application to seek freezing of the accounts.

The court released the accused on bail worth Ksh 200,000 and Ksh 150,000, respectively.

The court has scheduled further proceedings in the case for November 13, 2024.
