Senator Okiya Omtatah of Busia has created a committee consisting of ten individuals, one of whom is the activist Hanifa Adan, to investigate the possibility of him running for president in the elections that will take place in 2027.
In a notice published in the Gazette on Friday, November 22, the senator made the announcement that the committee, which will be known as the Presidential Exploratory Committee, will evaluate the possibility of his running for president in the general elections that are scheduled to take place in the near future.
The committee has appointed Hanifa Adan to the position of public relations/media consultant. In this role, she will be responsible for handling public relations and collaborating with the media.
In June and July, activist and journalist Adan led Gen Z protests. While she was in charge of the project, she took the initiative to raise money for victims of police brutality who had incurred injuries during the demonstrations.
Mary Kathomi Riungu will chair the committee, overseeing its operations and ensuring timely delivery of results. Her deputy will be Charles Ole Kabaiku, who will serve in this capacity.
As the political and grassroots strategist, we have chosen David John Bwakali to take on this role.
His principal responsibility will be to provide insights into political trends, electoral dynamics, and opportunities for strategic maneuvering.
Over the course of his tenure as the committee’s legal adviser, Victor Kipng’etich will be responsible for ensuring compliance with election rules and offering legal advice on a variety of issues.
In his role as the analytical lead, Jude Ogulla will be responsible for conducting opinion polls, surveys, and data analysis in order to evaluate the political viability and feeling of the general public.
Together, Purity Ndambuki and Emmanuel Baraka will serve as the joint secretaries, with the responsibility of providing assistance to the committee and ensuring that it continues to operate efficiently.
As committee spokesman, Kevin Migwe Kimwatu will serve, while Engineer Julius Okara will serve as trustee.
At the beginning of November 22, 2024, the committee will continue to serve for a length of time that does not exceed eighteen months. There will be an instant dissolution of the committee upon Omtatah’s official declaration of his candidacy or choice not to run for office.
Following the dissolution of the organization, Omtatah will be responsible for the transfer of all operations, assets, and documents to the proper political bodies or campaigns.
In July, while participating in a debate on X space, the senator made a veiled reference to the possibility of running for president. He said he would run based on public opinion, not personal gain.
