Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek’s remarks on national TV are nothing short of disappointing. He brazenly claims we should give SHA time to function efficiently as if healthcare can afford delays.
Lives are on the line, and yet Kiborek expects people to be patient with SHA’s inefficiencies as patients die in different hospitals.
The recent appearance of Kiborek on television has sparked significant viewer outrage.
Posts found on the X platform show that his presence on national TV has been met with criticism, with some users describing his speech as making them feel “dumb and dumber” and questioning how he is allowed to occupy prime television time.
There’s also mention of Kiborek having “skeletons in his closet,” suggesting his past actions or statements might be influencing negative reception.
People claim that Kiborek was not fit to have a conversation on national television after his case where he was accused of raping and defiling kids.
Kiborek past controversy
In 2018, Kiborek was arrested and charged with the defilement of a 16-year-old girl at Sarova Woodlands Hotel in Nakuru. He denied the charges and was released on a Ksh300,000 bond.
The case saw numerous delays, with accusations of witness intimidation and the prosecution’s unpreparedness. Ultimately, in November 2023, the Director of Public Prosecutions withdrew the case due to the unavailability of witnesses.
During the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations for the Mogotio parliamentary seat in 2022, Kiborek initially led, but vote counting was suspended under unclear circumstances.
This led to claims of vote-rigging, and the incumbent MP, Daniel Tuitoek, was declared the winner. This situation was particularly contentious given Kiborek’s ongoing legal issues at the time.
In August 2023, Kiborek was ejected from a parliamentary session for wearing a Kaunda suit with an allegedly too-low neckline, which sparked a debate on colonial-era fashion versus native Kenyan attire in the National Assembly.
Kiborek has faced public backlash for various statements, including a comparison of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment to the fading fame of a viral singer, Marakwet Daughter, which led to a public dispute between the two.
This incident was highlighted in October 2024 when Marakwet’s Daughter responded to Kiborek’s comments, accusing him of bringing her into political discourse unnecessarily.
