Maina Njenga denies being Ruto’s Mt Kenya point man

Maina Njenga, who used to lead the Mungiki group, has denied claims that he is now working closely with President William Ruto in central Kenya.

“I am standing with the people of Kenya. Right now, we want to come together. I used to support Azimio,” Njenga said, making it clear he is not part of the Kenya Kwanza government.

Njenga is back in the news after the former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, was impeached. Some people think Njenga might be ready to replace Gachagua and help get support for President Ruto in the important vote area.

On the HOT Breakfast show, Njenga rejected Gachagua’s recent claims. Gachagua had said that a gang, supposedly backed by the government, was coming back to cause trouble in the region.

Gachagua also asked his fellow Members of Parliament to write to the International Criminal Court (ICC) about the return of Mungiki.

“Gachagua wants to take me to The Hague, but he has no power to do that. He is just making noise,” Njenga said.

On Hot 96 radio, Njenga also spoke against the rise in abductions happening in the country and shared his own experience.

“I have been a victim of abduction. I was taken for 7 days when planning protests led by Raila. I was taken by men with hoods, just before dinner, and driven for 300 kilometres. It was a terrible experience, and the government should put an end to it,” he shared.

Mother and joyful journalist.
