Ruto allies threaten JB Muturi with impeachment after NIS abduction expose

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has laughed off threats of impeachment against him after his controversial press conference on Sunday. During that press event, he criticized the government for the growing number of abductions in the country, mentioning that his own son was also a victim.

On Tuesday, while giving a statement at the Kilimani Police Station about his son’s abduction, Muturi said he will not be intimidated by comments from “young politicians” who do not deserve his attention.

He stood firm on his decision to speak out against the abductions, saying it is an issue that affects everyone in Kenya.

“I will just say bring it on. At my age, I’m not going to respond to minor statements made by inexperienced politicians. They are not worth my time. So if anyone thinks I don’t understand what I am doing, they will be very surprised,” he said.

When asked why he did not discuss the abduction issue in Cabinet meetings, where he is a member, Muturi replied, “Cabinet does not work on a whim; there must be a formal document discussing the issue of insecurity or abductions. That has not been presented to the Cabinet. And even if it were to be presented, it would come from the relevant Cabinet Secretary.”

His statements come after National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro announced plans to impeach him, accusing him of blackmailing the government.

During an education event in South Mugirango, Osoro criticized Muturi for publicly criticizing the government instead of discussing it directly with President William Ruto in Cabinet meetings.

Osoro gave Muturi three options: to resign, to apologize publicly, or to face impeachment when Parliament meets again.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, the CS talked about his family’s struggle after his son, Leslie Muturi, was reportedly kidnapped in June 2024. Leslie was taken in the Lavington area of Nairobi and later released, which left the Muturi family very shaken.

Muturi expressed his frustration over the lack of clarity about the situation, saying, “I have not received any answers about why my son was abducted, held without communication, and why this happened to us.”

He also criticized the government’s silence, asking security agencies to provide information about how many young people have been abducted, how many have been released, and how many are still missing.
