Ugandan, Kenyan embassies in DRC burnt down

Mobs protesting the fall of Goma to M23 laid siege and attacked Kenyan, Ugandan and South African embassies in Kinshasa; unrest was also reported at the US and French embassies.

“We are deeply concerned by the ongoing siege and attacks on embassy premises and personnel in Kinshasa, DRC, including the Kenyan, Ugandan, and South African embassies, by marauding protesters who are voicing their discontent on the conflict in the eastern part of that country,” stated Singoei Korir, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Kenya.

The Kenyan embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has reportedly been attacked and burnt down.

According to posts found on social media and statements from Kenyan officials, the embassy in Kinshasa was looted, vandalized, and razed amid protests related to the conflict in the eastern part of the DRC.

The Kenyan Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary confirmed that all Kenyan staff were safe despite the attack.
