Auditor General finds Mbeere MP Ruku used Sh4.6M for nothing

In 2023, Geoffrey Ruku, the MP for Mbeere North, set aside Ksh 4.574 million from the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to improve primary schools in his area.

However, when officials checked in 2024, they found that no projects had taken place.

There were also no documents showing plans for these projects. The legislator has been moving from one TV station to the other, supporting the Kenya Kwanza government, claiming that he does not lie to constituents.

This situation has raised concerns about how public money is being managed. The Auditor General suggested that there should be an investigation into how these funds were used.

In September 2024, the High Court ruled that NG-CDF was unconstitutional. This means that the fund was operating without proper agreement from the government and was interfering with local government responsibilities.

The court ordered that the fund must stop operating by June 30, 2026, or sooner if further legal actions arise.

These events highlight ongoing problems with NG-CDF. There is a clear need for better oversight and transparency, and possibly a review of how these funds are used and distributed. This is important to ensure that they truly help communities grow and develop.
