Corruptly Gotten Ruto, Moi land among assets seized by EACC

Nairobi, Kenya The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recently taken significant steps in its fight against corruption by seizing assets valued at Sh31.5 billion over the last six years.

Among the seized properties are lands linked to high-profile figures, including President William Ruto and former President Daniel Arap Moi.

These actions are part of a broader crackdown on corruption, targeting assets believed to have been acquired through fraudulent means.

The EACC’s efforts have included the recovery of land, cash, and other valuables from individuals across the country.

The commission has handed over numerous properties to the state, including parcels of land in various counties, with some of the most notable recoveries being in Kisumu, Eldoret, and Nairobi. The land linked to Ruto and Moi is part of this extensive recovery effort.

These seizures have followed court proceedings where the EACC has been successful in proving the corrupt acquisition of properties. The recovery process involves legal battles to reverse fraudulent land allocations and compensations, like the case of land near Moi International Airport in Mombasa, where compensation was deemed illegal.

On social media, netizens reflect a mix of sentiments, with some users highlighting the irony of high-ranking officials being implicated in corrupt land deals while others are supportive of the EACC’s aggressive stance against corruption.

The EACC continues to pursue further recovery of assets, with plans to recover more properties across the country, emphasising their commitment to combating corruption at all levels of government.

This includes ongoing investigations and legal actions aimed at reclaiming government land and houses worth billions, demonstrating a sustained effort to restore public trust and manage public resources responsibly.
