Anaongea Sauti Ya Chama! ODM Defends SG Edwin Sifuna

Edwin Sifuna has reiterated his commitment to the opposition role of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He has challenged party members who are weary of being in opposition to join President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

His stance emphasises that ODM remains focused on advocating for Kenyans’ rights.

There have been allegations from within ODM, notably from Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo, accusing Sifuna along with other party leaders of creating divisions for personal political gain.

Despite these accusations, Sifuna has maintained his position as a key figure in ODM’s strategy towards the 2027 elections.

Sifuna has publicly called out ODM members who he believes are not fulfiling the party’s mandate of defending Kenyans, urging them to leave ODM if they cannot fulfil this role.

His statements have been seen as an effort to maintain party discipline and direction amidst internal and external pressures.

Earlier reports mentioned Sifuna shelving his ambitions to become the ODM deputy party leader, opting to continue as Secretary General, a position he has held for several years, highlighting his dedication to party organisation amidst political turbulence.

Sifuna has been vocal on various platforms, notably defending ODM’s position as not being part of the government, despite some ODM leaders joining President Ruto’s cabinet.

This has led to a narrative of ODM maintaining its opposition stance while navigating complex political alliances.

Netizens have suggested that Sifuna’s position within ODM might be under scrutiny or facing challenges, with some interpretations hinting at potential shifts in his political standing or the party’s internal dynamics.

ODM Party Leader Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o has redefined the ODM role in Kenya Kwanza, saying they are part of Azimio and only gave their technocrats or experts to KK.

The party leader defended Sifuna saying he is the only Secretary General of ODM and what he speaks, he speaks on behalf of the party nobody can question that.

Edwin Sifuna remains a central figure in ODM, navigating the party through internal challenges and maintaining its role as an opposition force in Kenyan politics.

“His recent actions and statements focus on party unity, discipline, and a clear direction towards future elections while addressing internal dissent and external political narratives,” added the party leader.
