President William Ruto explained why he could not go to the morning church service at JCC Mombasa.
He spoke at the church at 6 pm and said he was busy with tourism plans, which made him miss the service.
On Saturday night, he texted Bishop Wilfred Lai to say he wanted to join the service, even though he had to attend to the arrival of the MS Norwegian Dawn cruise ship.
“When the bishop replied at around 11 am, I had already taken care of the tourism issue, so I arrived late. But I told myself that I should still go to church,” he said.
Ruto arrived at 11 am, but he found out that the service was already over. The Bishop let him know there was a family service at 3:30 pm, and since he wanted to attend JCC, he promised to come back.
“I thank God I made it to this service because it has been a long time since I heard this spiritual leader speak about our country and government,” he said. “I feel happy, and I have truly been blessed to sit here and listen. God is healing our nation and economy.”
The MS Norwegian Dawn cruise ship brought more than 2,000 tourists to Mombasa. Ruto, along with Mombasa Governor Abdulswammad Nassir and Tourism CS Rebecca Miano, welcomed the visitors.
This cruise ship is the first one to arrive in Mombasa this year. The 294-meter-long ship carried passengers from 54 different countries, allowing them to enjoy Kenya’s beautiful beaches and national parks.
“I am proud to welcome these visitors and to help make Kenya a tourist destination. I heard that 800 guests went to Amboseli and took a city tour, which shows how important tourism is for our country,” Ruto said.
