The announcement that all staff working on the USAID Fahari ya Jamii project are on mandatory three-month unpaid leave starting February 1, 2025, follows a broader U.S. government directive.

This directive, a 90-day Stop Work Order, was issued on January 24, 2025, by the Trump administration, aiming to review and realign U.S. foreign assistance programs to align with U.S. foreign policy objectives.

This stop-work order has impacted numerous sectors and countries where USAID operates, including the Fahari ya Jamii project in Kenya, which focuses on health partnerships for quality services in Nairobi and Kajiado counties.

The immediate effect of this order has been the suspension of project activities, leading to unpaid leave for the staff involved.

This decision reflects a significant shift in U.S. foreign aid policy, causing widespread confusion and financial strain among aid workers and contractors globally.
