A tragic incident has claimed the life of a six-year-old boy in Nairobi’s Pipeline area after he choked on a mango seed, police confirmed today.
The young child was reportedly eating a mango given to him by a neighbour on Monday afternoon when he suddenly experienced breathing difficulties, sparking alarm among his friends and nearby residents.
According to authorities, the boy’s friends quickly alerted neighbours, who rushed him to a local hospital. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead on arrival at Mama Lucy Hospital.
Medical staff at the facility suspect the mango seed lodged in his throat, obstructing his airway and leading to his untimely death.
The boy’s body has been preserved at the hospital’s mortuary, pending a postmortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.
The child’s parents, devastated by the loss, were too distraught to speak publicly. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, though no foul play is suspected at this stage.
“It appears to be a tragic accident,” a police officer on the matter said, adding that further details would emerge following the autopsy.
The incident has left the Pipeline community in shock, with neighbours expressing sorrow over the sudden loss of the young boy.
This case serves as a sombre reminder of the potential dangers posed by seemingly harmless activities, particularly for young children.
