PC Kinyanjui TTI student tells Ruto, he’s getting 6K monthly, not suffering anymore

A student from PC Kinyanjui Technical Training Institute in Nairobi has shared with President William Ruto how he has earned approximately Ksh6,500 through digital jobs, highlighting the impact of the government’s Jitume Digital Programme.

Denis Kipkurui, speaking during the president’s visit to the institution on Wednesday, credited the initiative for providing students with access to online job opportunities, a move aimed at reducing youth unemployment across Kenya.

Kipkurui explained that he utilises Payrib, an online platform where he promotes products to earn money in dollars. “I am a product of the Jitume Digital Programme,” he told Ruto.

“Currently, I have earned $50.2, which is about Ksh6,500, and we withdraw the money when it reaches around $100. It’s helping students here—we are doing well.”

His remarks were met with applause from the delegation accompanying the president, who was on the third day of his Nairobi tour.

The Jitume Digital Programme, launched as part of Ruto’s broader vision to create digital employment opportunities, equips institutions like PC Kinyanjui with ICT labs and internet access.

Kipkurui noted, however, that the lab’s resources are stretched thin, with only a limited number of computers available for a growing student population, now estimated at 8,000.

In response, President Ruto praised the student’s initiative and pledged immediate action. “I’m so proud to be at PC Kinyanjui,” he said.

“Next month, I will ensure 100 additional computers are brought here so more students can benefit.”

He also committed to improving internet connectivity, promising to install fibre-optic infrastructure to support up to 300 simultaneous users at the institute.

The Jitume initiative aligns with Ruto’s frequent international engagements, where he has secured agreements with 19 countries to provide over one million digital jobs for Kenyans.

Mother and joyful journalist.
