Kasmuel McOure: I love and trust Ruto than Gachagua

Gen Z political activist Kasmuel McOure has stirred debate after declaring he would trust President William Ruto over former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The statement, made during an interview on Citizen TV’s Daybreak show on Friday, March 7, comes amid heightened political tensions ahead of the 2027 general election.

McOure, a prominent voice among Kenya’s Gen Z activists, argued that while he shares some ideological alignment with Gachagua, their approaches differ sharply.

“We agree on issues; we disagree on the approach. If we reduce this country to the hatred of President Ruto, it would be the surest win for him in 2027,” he said.

He further criticized Gachagua, stating, “I would trust President Ruto over Gachagua because he comes back as a bitter person.”

The activist’s remarks follow Gachagua’s impeachment in October 2024 and his subsequent emergence as a vocal critic of Ruto’s administration.

McOure’s preference for Ruto has sparked mixed reactions online, with some netizens questioning his shift from earlier anti-government activism during the 2024 anti-tax protests.

Others see it as a pragmatic stance, given Gachagua’s polarizing reputation.

Ruto and Gachagua’s fallout has dominated Kenya’s political landscape, with the former deputy now rallying support in the Mt. Kenya region.

McOure’s comments add a new layer to the ongoing rivalry, highlighting divisions even among opposition figures.

The activist did not elaborate further on his reasoning but emphasized the need for a unified strategy to challenge Ruto effectively.
